Back in 1989 — when Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld unveiled their hit sitcom "Seinfeld" — most political pundits would have laughed if told that the United States would someday have a GOP presidential candidate who won his party's nomination despite facing four criminal indictments, and that the candidate was Donald Trump. But what would have seemed outlandish 35 years ago is a reality in 2024, and polls are showing a very close race that Trump has a good shot at winning.
Trump's critics, including President Joe Biden, fear that he will govern as a full-fledged authoritarian if he wins the election and returns to the White House. And David slammed Trump as a major threat to democracy during a late March interview with CNN's Chris Wallace, formerly of Fox News.
"You can't go a day without thinking about what he's done to this country," the 76-year-old "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator told Wallace. "Because he's such a little baby that he's thrown 250 years of democracy out the window by not accepting the results of an (election). I mean, it's so crazy. He's such a sociopath. He's so insane. He just couldn't admit to losing, and we know he lost."

David continued, "He knows he lost, and look how he's fooled everybody. He's convinced all these people that he didn't lose. He's such a sick man. He's so sick."
During a subsequent conversation with his CNN colleague Laura Coates, Wallace argued that his interview with David "may be the best interview I've done in these two and a half years" — quickly adding, "not because of me, but because Larry was so great in this."
Wallace told Coates, "It did not take a lot of prompting to get Larry David to go off on Donald Trump. He really doesn't like him."
