Kristi Noem dodges question about alleged Kim Jong Un meeting: 'I took that line out of my book'

South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem — who's rumored to be a potential running mate with Donald Trump — on Sunday refused to answer a question about her new book, No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.

Noem was staunchly criticized by many of her constituents and Republican colleagues after The Guardian reported in April that the governor revealed in the book that she once killed her dog.

The GOP leader adamantly defended her story on social media, writing, "The fact is, South Dakota law states that dogs who attack and kill livestock can be put down. Given that Cricket had shown aggressive behavior toward people by biting them, I decided what I did."

During the latest episode of NBC's Meet the Press, guest host Peter Alexander asked Noem about a line that was originally in her book, but ultimately removed, according to the governor.

"You wrote about meeting with Kim Jong Un," Alexander said. "There's no evidence that meeting happened, so how did it make it into your book?"

Noem replied, "I'm not gonna talk about that. I took that line out of my book."

Alexander asked, "Why was that line ever in your book?"

"I wrote that book, and I hope people will read it," Noem said. "It's a good book about how the American citizen can get involved in their government, again, and what they can do, and how the most powerful person in government is them. It's the people who show up, who get engaged, and the stories of what they can do to take this country back, and how Donald Trump's policies work for the American people."

Alexander then said, "Understood, then, just to put it to bed once and for all: Did you, or did you not meet with Kim Jong Un?"

"I am not going to talk about this," the Republican leader replied.

Regarding whether the South Dakota governor has been tapped for Trump's VP list, Noem said, "I haven’t received any paperwork. I’ve had conversations with the president, and I know that he is the only one who will be making the decisions on who will be his vice president."
