Former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Michael Steele has strongly criticized the idea of a reality show for immigrants that is reportedly being considered by President Donald Trump's administration.
During a Friday night segment on MSNBC, Steele called the idea "offensive" and "stupid."
"What is wrong with these people that they view humanity that way?" Steele said.

He wondered why members of the administration "look at these individuals [immigrants] regardless of the track, regardless of the status; that they think the solution to a problem they refuse to fix is to entertain themselves by watching these individuals debase themselves in some form of arena and go at it to prove how much they want to be an American citizen."
"It is offensive. It is stupid," Steele said.
The former RNC chair went on to say that the fact that such a proposal is even under consideration "is a reflection of just how poor the leadership in this country is."
On Thursday, it was reported that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem is backing a reality TV show in which immigrants compete for a chance to win U.S. citizenship.

According to the reports, Noem has been collaborating with Rob Worsoff, producer of Duck Dynasty, on a proposed series titled The American, where immigrants from around the world would face off in various challenges across the country.
Worsoff's 35-page show proposal, which the Daily Mail claims to have obtained, outlines the concept to "celebrate what it means to be American and have a national conversation about what it means to be American, through the eyes of the people who want it most."
Noem's office denied that the DHS secretary is actively participating in the project. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin clarified that the show is "in the very beginning stages" of being vetted and that Noem has not yet reviewed the proposal. However, unnamed sources cited by the Mail claim that Noem quietly supports the concept.
