President Donald Trump's ambassador to Greece is reportedly facing a federal investigation following complaints about her treatment of embassy staff, luxury travel, and potential ethics violations.
Five sources told the Daily Mail that the Office of Inspector General at the State Department has launched a formal inquiry into Kimberly Guilfoyle and the U.S. Embassy in Athens. However, the inspector general has not yet confirmed the investigation publicly.
The accusations involve a work environment that had been described as "toxic", in which employees were allegedly forced to make responses late at night, were allegedly shouted at, and were threatened with dismissal.
"F—— get it done or you're f—— fired!" Guilfoyle reportedly warned embassy employees on multiple occasions, according to the report.
One of the reported incidents allegedly occurred in Mykonos, where Guilfoyle reportedly called a member of her security detail at 4 a.m. demanding more ice cubes.
When the guard, whose name was Vasili, did not reply, it was said that he had been dismissed from his position of supervision and given a new assignment to “follow-car.”
Petros and Dimitris, two other drivers, are said to have had their jobs taken away after Guilfoyle objected to the way they "made a left turn."
The sources also mentioned meetings between the Greek police and the ambassador's security team, which consisted of sixteen members, regarding staffing changes and the allegations of verbal abuse.
"You receive enough complaints, and you open up an investigation," one insider familiar with the allegations told the Daily Mail, adding, "Hopefully this shakes her.”
Per the report, investigators are looking into allegations that Guilfoyle used private jets and accepted inappropriate gifts. It also mentioned her association with an energy and construction company.
The report also states that Guilfoyle fired her ethics manager, Ann-Marie Everitt, as a result of a dispute regarding the funding of renovations to Jefferson House, which is the ambassador's official residence in Athens.
Jesse Binnall, who is Guilfoyle's attorney, denied the allegations of misconduct.
"Any implication of wrongdoing by the Ambassador is unsupported," Binnall said.
The State Department inspector general's office told the newspaper it could not "confirm, deny or comment on investigative matters."
The disclosures come in response to requests made by congressional Democrats for an inquiry into Guilfoyle's diplomatic activities.
Recently, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) has asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio to investigate allegations that Guilfoyle improperly promoted a foreign company and allowed the registered lobbyist Christos Marafatsos to take part in high-level diplomatic meetings.
Rubio, who visited Athens this week for talks on defense and energy cooperation, sidestepped questions regarding Guilfoyle's conduct.
