Kellyanne Conway is acting like she hopes to be Trump’s running mate

GOP consultant and former Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway is not the first person who comes to mind when it comes to possible running mates for the 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York) and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem are often mentioned as strong possibilities. And, according to some pundits, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) is hoping that Trump will consider her. But Trump reportedly resents Mace deeply for criticizing him after the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building.

Conway noted some possible running mates for Trump in an op-ed published by the New York Times on February 5. And actor/comedian Michael Ian Black suspects that the op-ed was a thinly veiled effort to promote herself as a possible running mate for Trump.

In an op-ed of his own — one published by the Daily Beast two days later — Black argues, "Question: Why did Conway write this piece at all? A theory: Perhaps Conway's positioning herself to be Trump's VP pick. Why else write her piece for the much-despised New York Times, if not for the fact that she knows Trump hate-reads the paper?"

Black continues, "She suggests he select a person of color knowing full well that Trump is allergic to 'diversity hires.' She also takes a bunch of shots at Vice President (Kamala) Harris, possibly auditioning lines of attack she will take on the debate stage if given the nod. Conway is one of the sharpest political minds in the country. She's also one of the most devious, manipulative, callous and backhanded — a perfect fit for a second Trump Administration. Kellyanne wants in."

Conway is married to conservative attorney George Conway, one of Trump's most scathing critics on the right. The Conways, however, have been separated are reportedly in the process of divorcing.

In her Times op-ed, Kellyanne Conway wrote that she "would suggest he choose a person of color as his running mate" because it would be helpful to the "America First movement." Conway herself is white, but Black slams her "person of color" recommendation as insincere.

"Rarely has a person been able to vomit out so many words in as condescending a manner, while saying so little of substance," Black says of the GOP consultant. "Conway also has a particular set of skills prized by the Trump team. First of all, she's shameless."
