'You should be assassinated': Judge and clerk 'inundated' with 'credible' threats after Trump rant
22 November 2023
In the days since former President Donald Trump attacked Judge Arthur Engoron's law clerk, Allison Greenfield, on social media immediately following a pause on his civil fraud trial gag order, both the judge and Greenfield have fielded "death threats."
According to Reuters, "several hours" after the gag order was paused Trump took to Truth Social to call Greenfield "Trump hating" and "politically biased and out of control."
Law 360 New York courts reporter Frank G. Runyeon wrote on Wednesday, "NEW: Death threats & antisemitic rants 'inundated' Justice Engoron & his law clerk after Donald Trump attacked them on social media, says top NY court security official, citing 275 transcribed pages. The threats are 'serious and credible and not hypothetical or speculative.'"

Runyeon continued, "'You should be assassinated,' one threat reads. A NY court security official links Donald Trump's statements to the threats. 'When Mr. Trump violated the gag orders, the number of threatening, harassing and disparaging messages increased,' Capt. Hollon said."
The courts reporter noted, "The information was filed today as part of Justice Engoron's opposition to Trump's motion to lift the gag orders. The judge argued they were necessary for the safety of this staff. This affidavit by court security is meant to support that position."
The court document Runyeon shared states, "Ms. Greenfield's personal information, including her personal cell phone number and personal email addresses also have been compromised resulting in daily doxing. She has been subjected to, on a daily basis, harassing, disparaging comments and antisemitic tropes. I have been informed by Ms. Greenfield that she has been receiving approximately 20-30 calls per day to her personal cell phone and approximately 30-50 messages per day on combined sites of social media, Linkedln and two (2) personal email addresses. Ms. Greenfield also informed me that since the interim stay was issued lifting the gag orders on November 16, 2023, approximately half of the harassing and disparaging messages have been antisemitic."
