Jon Stewart Goes Off On "Motherf*cker" Donald Rumsfeld For Iraq War Revisionism
12 June 2015
Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is back in the news after telling the Times of London in an interview that Bush was "wrong" on the Iraq War and that he knew at the time the invasion was an "unrealistic idea". Needless to say, the man who spent most of his waking hours in the 2000's documenting and mocking the Bush administration's follies, Jon Stewart, was bumfuzzled.
"I think we can file that under 'comments that would have been useful earlier', Stewart said indignantly. Rumsfeld's comments, he would note, were in stark contrast to Rumsfeld's own telling of the events when he was on the Daily Show in 2011. To make matters worse, Rumsfeld's "clarifying" statements on Fox News the following day were even more confusing, getting into a semantics juggling routine with what he meant by Iraqis "not being ready" for democracy versus our brand of "democracy". It's all a muddled mess and one that predictably enraged Stewart, who still seems genuinely confused by the fact that our leaders can sometimes be unmitigated sociopaths incapable of self-reflection and contrition.
In any event, it's pretty funny. Watch below:
