Sen. John Fetterman (D‑Pa.) delivered a blunt message to reporters Monday at the Capitol. He said he’d much rather be at home than in the Senate where a marathon vote‑a‑rama began Monday morning on President Donald Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill."
Senate Republicans spent the weekend revising the language of the massive spending bill to meet parliamentarian rulings and win over wavering lawmakers. Trump has set a July 4 deadline for Congress to pass the bill.
“I just want to go home. I’ve missed our entire trip to the beach… I’m going to vote no. There’s no drama… I don’t think it’s really helpful to put people here till some ungodly hour," Fetterman said while speaking to reporters.

The Pennsylvania Democrat's remarks generated backlash on social media, with many calling his statement insensitive.
Former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner, reacting to Fetterman's remarks, wrote on the social platform X: "This isn’t what public service is about. At all."
Author Amanda Litman said: "Even if you feel this way — why in the hell would you say this out loud to a reporter???"
Political commentator Fred Wellman wrote: "Being a Senator is so inconvenient!"

Activist Aru Shiney-Ajay wrote: "Kids will go hungry. People will die. Millions are being stripped of their healthcare coverage while hospitals shut their doors. But yeah — God forbid your beach trip gets interrupted."
Igor Bobic, a political correspondent at HuffPost, quoted a Democratic Senate aide as saying, "Does Fetterman think his job is beach like Ken from Barbie?! He’s a United States Senator! You’re expected to work long hours and take hard votes."
Writer Scott Thill reacted to the video and said, "Stop crying."
"Please just resign and let Shapiro appoint a replacement!" wrote a user.
