Former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh has a name for President Donald Trump, and he believes the rest of America shouldn’t be afraid to use it.
“What do you call someone who is at war with our elections process?” Walsh demanded on his Friday podcast. “What do you call someone who tries to delegitimize America's elections? What do you call someone who tries to sow distrust in our elections? What do you call somebody who f—— with our elections?”
Seeing that the upcoming midterms election are beginning to look like a GOP slaughter, Walsh said Trump and his administration are working to undermine it. Reports suggest the White House is circulating a draft proposal calling for Trump to declare an emergency via executive order and use it to ban mail-in voting and require voter ID, under the false argument that China rigged the 2020 election.
Walsh said the president and his cohorts have already tried to throw elections in the past.
“They tried to f—— with how votes are counted [in 2020]. They attacked the process. They tried to delegitimize the elections process. They tried to f—— with the outcome,” said Walsh. “They tried to cause chaos and mayhem on America's streets to screw with our elections, what would you call a foreign leader who did that, who was at war with our elections?”
“Our ‘enemy’. An ‘enemy’ of this country,” continued Walsh, a former Trump voter. “Somebody who attacked our elections would be an enemy of this country.”
Walsh called U.S. elections “the heartbeat of our democracy,” and railed the kind of leader who would work to undermine it by spreading false allegations and new, onerous vote restrictions. Trump, he said, “has been at war against our elections and our elections process for the past 10 years.”
“Every two to four years since 2016, he attacks our elections process. He tries to delegitimize our elections. He does whatever he can to sow distrust in our elections process. He doesn't accept the results of our elections when he and his side don't win. My God, he refused to accept an election loss in 2020 and then committed crimes trying to overthrow an American election,” said Walsh, adding that he is again “He's laying the seed” for 2026.
“He's laying the groundwork, baby. So that when he loses … this year, he'll completely delegitimize the election. This is what he did in 2020, which f—— got us January 6th, a violent insurrection to try to overthrow the election. He's doing the same thing here.”
“I never used to call him a fascist,” lamented Walsh, who claims he “comes from MAGA, but got out.” “I used to get frustrated when people compared [Trump] to Adolf Hitler. Now, I'm not saying that Donald Trump is ready to kill 7 million Jews, but what I am saying is there are some similarities. He wants to be a dictator.”
