'He needs to go': West Virginia GOP taking action to replace Joe Manchin in 2024

Members of the West Virginia GOP are leaning towards voting Senator Joe Manchin out of office in the 2024 Senate race, reports NBC. With the notoriously red state becoming increasingly more far-right leaning, Republican leaders are bracing for their voters’ desire to choose a senator who fits the bill.

West Virginia GOP members, including Rep. Alex Mooney and Moore Capito, have both decided to run. Regarding the senate race, Capito said, “I think there’s an absolute laser focus in this state, in terms of the Republican Party in defeating Joe Manchin and 2024.”

Other Republican officials in the state like GOP Chairwoman Elgine McArdle had comments about Manchin.

“It’s clear that he needs to go," she said. "He not only has a target on his back in West Virginia, he has a target on his back nationally.”

However, Manchin has not yet announced whether he’ll even run. During an interview with local West Virginia Metro News last week, he said, “I’m not in a hurry. The bottom line is I only care about one thing and that’s the success of my state and people having opportunities in my state.”

Manchin has teased the idea of switching parties, similar to colleague Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who recently registered as an Independent. “I have no intention of doing anything right now,” Manchin claims. “And whether I do something later, I can’t tell you what the future is going to bring.”
