When President Joe Biden stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him as the 2024 Democratic nominee last month, former President Donald Trump quickly claimed that the Party selected Harris through a "coup."
In a Washington Post article published Monday, August 19, the newspaper noted:
Trump has long insisted that his political failures are the result of some malevolent force trying to keep him out of power, and he has weakened faith in the U.S. election system despite widespread evidence that the results can be trusted. When asked to comment for this article, Trump’s campaign responded with a statement attacking Harris and again characterizing her nomination as part of a 'coup.'
During the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago Monday, CNN's Kaitlan Collins asked Biden about his thoughts on Trump's claim.

"Donald Trump claims that you were pushed out in what amounts to a coup." She asked the president, "What do you make of those claims?"
Biden replied: "His stability is still in question."
Daily Kos editor Greg Dworkin replied: "Tell it, Joe"
EveryTown communications director Max Steele commented: "Anyone still pushing the coup talking point should be forced to livestream themselves reading DNC bylaws in their entirety, and then sit through every DNC rules committee meeting for a presidential cycle."
