Delaware driver charged with DUI after hitting Secret Service SUV protecting Biden

On Sunday night, December 17, a member of a U.S. Secret Service motorcade protecting President Joe Biden was hit by another vehicle in Wilmington, Delaware.

According to the New York Times and The Messenger, the motorist who hit that Secret Service SUV has been identified as 46-year-old Wilmington resident James Cooper. And he is now facing DUI charges.

The Messenger's Luke Funk explains, "The president and First Lady Jill Biden had just left his campaign headquarters in Wilmington about 8 p.m. Sunday when the crash took place. The president was responding to a reporter's question when a sedan with Delaware plates hit a Secret Service SUV at the intersection across from the campaign headquarters."

Funk adds, "There was a loud bang from the crash and the president, 81, stopped to look with a surprised expression on his face."

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were unharmed.
