Jim Jordan made up to $1 million with a book about 'fighting for freedom in the swamp'

Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, could have more than quadrupled his congressional salary due to sales of a book about "fighting for freedom in the swamp," according to new federal disclosure records.

Jordan revealed that he made between $100,000 and $1 million in royalties for "Do What You Said You Would Do: Fighting for Freedom in the Swamp," according to a financial disclosure report for 2022 obtained by Raw Story.

Federal lawmakers are generally barred from engaging in outside employment, but enjoy a loophole for earning money from books they write. It was recently reported that Congress together brought in $1.8 million in 2020 from book royalties and advances.

The amount Jordan made last year from that book alone could have potentially dwarfed his congressional salary, which is just $174,000 per year.

Lawmakers are only required to disclose such book royalty income in broad ranges.

Jordan's office didn't immediately return Raw Story's request for comment or for specific royalty numbers on Wednesday.
