'All hope is lost' with Jim Jordan after he 'loses big' on third speaker vote — his worst yet

After losing two votes for House speaker, far-right nominee Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was determined to keep fighting. A third vote was held on the House floor on Friday morning, October 20, and this time, things went even worse for Jordan when three Republicans who voted for him before flipped and voted "no," including Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania).

In the end, 25 Republicans voted "no" on Jordan — an increase from 20 on the first vote and 22 on the second.

As the votes were coming in, MSNBC elections analyst Steve Kornacki cited Fitzpatrick as an example of a Republican in a swing district who had decided against voting for Jordan. Fitzpatrick's district, Kornacki noted, is in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in the Philadelphia suburbs.

Kornacki stressed that Jordan, "gained zero new votes on this ballot" but lost three previous "yes" votes.

GOP strategist and Never Trump conservative Susan Del Percio, on MSNBC, predicted that Jordan will have a vindictive response to being rejected as speaker a third time. Del Percio told her colleagues, "He will go out and torch the place down when he loses…. It will be the minority of both parties that will come together."

X, formerly Twitter, has been full of reactions to Jordan's third loss.

AP reporter Farnoush Amiri noted that when the votes were coming in, Rep. Juan Vargas (D-California) kept whispering "excellent" or "perfection" whenever a GOP vote against Jordan came in.

Journalist Ed Krassenstein tweeted, "Jim Jordan has lost yet again, losing the third vote for Speaker of the House. It seems as though all hope is lost with Jordan, and he just doesn't have the support of his own party in Congress. Where do we go from here? Do Republicans work with Democrats in some way, or do they temporarily put Patrick McHenry in charge?"

Axios, on X, reported, "Multiple GOP lawmakers told Axios they expect Republicans to keep abandoning Jim Jordan on each future speaker ballot."

Activist Joe Katz noted that Fitzpatrick and Rep. Tom Kean of New Jersey, another Republican who went "no" on the third vote, are both "Biden district Republicans."

Liberal pundit Art Candee remarked, "Color me surprised…said absolutely nobody."

Keith Boykin, co-founder of the National Black Justice Coalition, posted, "Jim Jordan for Speaker? First Vote: Lost 20 Republicans Second Vote: Lost 22 Republicans Third Vote: Lost 25 Republicans* (*and counting)."

Attorney Amee Vanderpool tweeted, "Jim Jordan just lost his third vote after Bacon voted for McHenry, Buchanan voted for Daniels and Buck voted for Emmer. Game over."

Conservative Washington Examiner columnist Quin Hillyer commented, "Jim Jordan doesn't own the speaker nomination. After he loses big on third floor vote, he should go back to conference, withdraw, see who else runs.... and if he wants, run again WITHIN the conference. But at least give his colleagues the option."
