'Collapse of the republic': Rick Wilson warns 'goon' Jim 'Jordan will burn down the world for Trump'

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is by no means universally loved by conservatives. Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) blamed him for the January 6, 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol Building, and former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) slammed him as a "legislative terrorist."

Yet Jordan stands a very good chance of being chosen as House speaker if enough of his Republican critics are bullied into voting for him. Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Missouri), on October 12, told NBC News' Scott Wong she was a "hell on" on Jordan as speaker — only to cave into pressure and give him her full support four days later.

The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson is sounding the alarm about the damage that Jordan will inflict if chosen as speaker.

In a tweet posted on October 17, the former GOP strategist and Never Trump conservative warns, "Sure, Jordan is easily ridiculed, but I'm quite serious when I say that he may well be the cause of the collapse of the American Republic. He's proximate to almost every bit of the 2020 election plot and January 6. Jordan will burn down the world for Trump."

Wilson is equally critical of Jordan in a column posted on his Substack page on October 16, lamenting that even "so-called moderate Republicans" in the House will be coerced into voting to make the "bizarro world insurrectionist goon" speaker.

"Forget the bipartisan fantasy," Wilson warns. "If history is any guide, the 'moderate,' 'good guy' and 'problem solvers' — all in the most sarcastic quotes I can muster — Biden 18 types will talk a big game, then get behind Jim Jordan, a man destined to be one of the most calamitous speakers of the House in modern memory…. The obvious choice for these so-called moderates is to make a deal with the Democrats, but that's a Sorkinesque fantasy — delightful in prospect, impossible in reality."

The Never Trumper continues, "It will be a disaster for them, politically. It will be a disaster for the nation since it means inevitable shutdown drama. Expect nothing but performative political stunts, and a Hunter Biden's Laptop D*** Pic Palooza from Jordan and his creepy minions in the year ahead until they and their kin in the entertainment wing of the GOP meet an angry American electorate in November of 2024."
