GOP lawmaker who was a 'hell no' on Jim Jordan speaker nomination flip-flops and offers full support

When NBC News' Scott Wong, on October 12, asked Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Missouri) if she would support Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for House speaker, she said she was a firm "Hell no." But four days later, on Monday morning, October 16, the GOP congresswoman did a total flip flop and announced that she would vote to confirm Jordan as speaker.

In an official statement, Wagner announced, "Let me be clear: I am not and will not work with Democrats as our Republican conference comes together to elect a conservative speaker of the House…. Jim Jordan is our conference nominee, and I will support his nomination for speaker on the House floor."

Wagner's announcement has inspired a variety of reactions on X, formerly Twitter.

Civil rights attorney Bradley Dlatt tweeted, "Must be nice getting lied to all the time by the GOP. Consequences?"

Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman noted that Wagner has been one of Rep. Steve Scalise's (R-Louisiana) "top allies in the House" and described her Jordan endorsement as "massive."

CNN's Manu Raju tweeted, "Jim Jordan has picked up three key holdouts — Mike Rogers, Ann Wagner and Ken Calvert — a sign he is making up ground to 217 votes."

Pundit Collette Flanigan commented, "They have been pressured that Jordan is all they have and if they want RNC $, they will tow that line." And another pundit, Mark Peavy, posted a photo of Wagner and wrote, "The only flip-flop."

HuffPost's Jennifer Bendery noted that it only took Wagner four days to totally reverse her position.

Wisconsin-based Joseph Britt remarked, "Party before country with these people, always."

Liberal Ada Sorensen tweeted, "Alt headline: Rep. Ann Wager comes out in support for fascism."
