Vice President JD Vance appeared to accidentally break the College Football Playoff national championship trophy on the White House lawn during the Ohio State University football team's visit to the White House on Monday to celebrate their win over Notre Dame in January.
A clip showing Vance dropping the trophy went viral on social media, with some users like attorney T. Greg Doucette calling it a "quite a metaphor" for the Trump administration's handling of government affairs.
Author James Surowiecki wrote on the social platform X, "Perfect metaphor for what Trump and Vance are doing to the US economy."

Actor Heather Thomas had a similar comment on the video. "Metaphor," she wrote on X while sharing the clip.
Writer David Pepper said the Vice President was "trying to make people forget Greenland," referring to Vance's controversial visit to the territory.
Writer Jonathan Chait joked, "Sorry, Ohio State's national championship is officially revoked. I don't make the rules."
Meanwhile, Vance also shared the video on his X account, saying, "I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it."
