'It’s hypocritical': Ron Johnson suggests Trump should be given a pass because of Hillary Clinton
10 June 2023
United States Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) on Saturday suggested that the numerous criminal indictments that were filed against former President Donald Trump by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith this week were unfair because the Federal Bureau of Investigation's probe into Hillary Clinton in 2016 resulted in no charges.
"WFRV in Green Bay. Senator Johnson, what is your reaction to the indictments against President Trump concerning the documents?" the senator was asked by a local reporter.
"I think it's unfortunate. I, I think it's political. Uh, I think it's hypocritical. I, I investigated Hillary Clinton's email scandal. I saw the FBI edit James Comey's exoneration memo, uh, removing, uh, things like gross negligence, which would've been a criminal standard replacement with extremely careless, uh, this is something that shouldn't have been done," Johnson said.
"This, this starts looking more like the Banana Republic," Johnson continued. "I haven't read the indictment. I've seen some summaries of it. I guess, uh, from that standpoint, it'll be in the hands of the, the judge's jury at this point in time. But this would've been far better had we just, uh, you know, not gone down this path."
