Ex-Trump aide explains why he 'wouldn’t have a problem if Joe Biden pardoned Hunter Biden'

As Hunter Biden continues to face federal trial in his home state of Delaware centered around three felonies in connection to a revolver he bought in 2018, President Joe Biden's son also faces up to 25 years behind bars if convicted.

The president doubled-down on his December claim last week that if his son is convicted, he will not utilize his power to pardon Hunter.

In an op-ed published by The Hill Monday, lawyer Aron Solomon wrote:

The psychological impact of Biden the elder knowing that his son is in a Delaware court every day with the distinct possibility of prison time is more than enough to shift the pardon paradigm. Having witnessed and endured everything Hunter Biden has been through — the loss of his biological mother to an accident that also killed his baby sister, his drug addiction, the untimely death of his brother Beau to cancer, and much more — the jolt of a legal conviction might jolt President Biden’s moral conviction. Any parent would understand.

Speaking with CNN's Jake Tapper, GOP strategist and former Trump-Pence campaign communications director Bryan Lanza offered another reason why he wouldn't shun the president for pardoning his son.

"I think this is where I differentiate from President Trump and my party on this [subject]," the former Trump campaign staffer told Tapper. "I don't know why this prosecution has gone forward. I would not have a problem if Joe Biden pardoned Hunter Biden in this situation. We just don't charge drug addicts and we don't pursue drug addicts in this particular way."

Lanza continued, "I certainly see the politics behind it. You have somebody who has violated laws, state, federal, probably any law you can imagine, and is probably a gross human being at this point. But we do treat drug addicts a different way. And this is something that at least I deviate from President Trump, but we are where we are. I'm sure it's gonna be difficult, and he has to be held accountable."

"But we should be clear here. Had this been anybody else? Hunter Biden wouldn't have been brought up. Just like in the New York case, had President Trump in anybody else that prosecution wouldn't brought up. We've now weaponized our courts with blue and with red, and that's a dangerous thing and hunters is a consequence of weaponizing the courts."

Lanza emphasized, "And I just think that's a sense of sad message to people who are recovering from drug addiction."
