'Slammed the gavel so hard': House tensions run high as GOP fails to pass spending bill
19 December 2024
Ahead of the vote for a massive spending bill that would extend government funding through March 14, "tensions" among House and Senate members ran "high" in the chamber, according to NBC News national political reporter Sahil Kapur.
The NBC reporter shared a C-SPAN video of the convening via X, writing: "Tensions are running high in the House. Rep. [Marcus] Molinaro (R-NY), presiding and trying to call the place to order, slammed the gavel so hard it make a weird sound (did it break?) and prompted oooooohs in the chamber."
In the video, Molinaro can be heard saying, "The House will be in order. The House will be in order."

Kapur posted the video just before the Republicans failed to pass the bill.
Manhattan Institute senior fellow Brian Riedl wrote: "For 4 Biden years, GOP lawmakers railed against deficits and especially debt limit hikes. Then Trump wins, and GOP passes $310 billion in spending hikes with no payfors, and most vote to suspend the debt limit so Trump can add unlimited debt. The open hypocrisy is comical."
