Keep Trump 'out of jail': Here are 5 shocking revelations from former White House aide’s new book
26 September 2023
Some of the most compelling testimony presented by the January 6 Select Committee in 2022 came from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to ex-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Hutchinson, during her testimony, vividly recalled the events leading up to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building.
Here are five revelations in Hutchinson's new book, "Enough."
1. Mark Meadows was determined to keep Trump 'out of jail'
Trump is now facing four criminal indictments. According to Hutchinson, Meadows was hoping to limit Trump's legal exposure long before he was charged with anything. In June 2020, Hutchson reveals, Meadows told her, "Cass, if I can get through this job and manage to keep (Trump) out of jail, I'll have done a good job."

2. Meadows believed COVID denial 'killed Herman Cain'
During the Summer of 2020, MAGA Republicans downplayed the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tea Party favorite Herman Cain was among the Republicans who rejected social distancing precautions, and on July 30, 2020, Cain died from COVID-19. Meadows, according to Hutchinson, blamed pandemic denialism and told her, "We killed Herman Cain."
3. Trump admitted losing the 2020 election
Two of the four criminal prosecutions that Trump is facing are related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. One of the arguments that Trump's defenders are making is that he legitimately believed he won the election and was acting in good faith. But according to Hutchinson, Trump acknowledged to Meadows that he had lost.
Trump, Hutchinson writes, told Meadows, "I don't want people to know we lost, Mark. This is embarrassing. Figure it out."
4. Hutchinson feared Jan. 6, 2021 would be the 'beginning of a coup'
When a mob of Trump supporters violently attacked the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, Hutchinson saw it as more than a riot — she feared that a full-fledged coup was underway.

In "Enough," Hutchinson writes that on January 6, she was thinking, "We have to have a plan in place in case the worst happens. In case this is the beginning of a coup."
5. Hutchinson alleges that Rudy Giuliani groped her on Jan. 6
Hutchinson, in "Enough," alleges that the day of the Capitol insurrection, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — one of the speakers at Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally — groped and sexually harassed her. Giuliani has denied her allegation.
