GOP lawmakers raise alarm over Dems’ 'shattering fundraising records'

Following Donald Trump's Bedminster New Jersey Golf Club press conference Thursday, Republican lawmakers gathered virtually on a call to discuss Republicans' opportunities and challenges ahead of November.

Politico's Olivia Beavers reported via X that a source familiar with details around the call said National Republican Congressional Committee "Chair Richard Hudson (R-NC) plans to give a broad political update about state of the race for the majority with Kamala Harris as Dems’ nominee. He’s also expected to argue Rs still have a good opportunity to pick up seats, but will nod at challenges like Dem fundraising $."

She added: "Another source on the call tells me Hudson is sounding the alarm. Hudson says he’s seen a significant shift towards the Dems in polling as Dems unite, 'peaking really at the right time.' He’s describing a situation in which the Dems and DCCC are shattering fundraising records after finding new enthusiasm. And that Rs need resources to match."

Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman reported Hudson said, "We still have a great shot to grow our majority. But the Democrats are at the gates – hauling in hundreds of millions of dollars in the last few weeks. If we’re going to accomplish our goal of growing our majority, I need you to want it."

Furthermore, Beavers noted that another source said the North Carolina congressman urged fellow Republican lawmakers to "work to define Harris — including as a San Francisco radical, an open border czar, and someone who would cause more inflation."

Reuters reported in January that the vice president "was never given the portfolio of border czar, said Alan Bersin, who embraced the label as a special representative for border affairs under Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. 'This was not the job assigned to VP Harris,' he said."

The report continued, "Instead, Biden asked Harris to lead diplomatic efforts to reduce poverty, violence and corruption in Central America's Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, as well as engage with Mexico on the issue."

Furthermore, earlier this week, "the Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed that inflation rates have slowed to their lowest level in three years."

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said: "Yes, yes, yes, I told you we were gonna have a soft landing. My policies are working. Start writing that way, OK?"
