Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) went from praising Volodymyr Zelensky on Valentine's Day 2025 to lambasting him after the Ukrainian president's contentious Friday, February 28 meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance. Trump and Vance angrily accused Zelensky of being ungrateful to the U.S., and Graham — a former Trump critic turned strident Trump ally — sided with the Trump Administration.
During a Monday morning, March 3 broadcast, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough mocked Graham and slammed his as a shameless flip flopper.
The conservative "Morning Joe" host showed a clip of Graham with Zelensky on Valentine's Day in Munich, where he told the Ukrainian president, "You're the ally I've been hoping for all my life. Not one American has died defending Ukraine. You've taken our weapons, and you've kicked their a--. And I'm very proud to have you as our ally."

But in the February 28 clip that Scarborough showed, Graham told reporters, "Somebody asked me: Am I embarrassed about Trump? I have never been more proud of the president. I was very proud of JD Vance standing up for our country…. What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful, and I don't know if we can ever do business with Zelensky again. I think most Americans saw a guy that they would not want to go in business with. The way he handled the meeting, the way he confronted the president was just over the top."
Scarborough, after playing those clips, commented, "Lindsey Graham twisting and contorting once again all for the benefit of Donald Trump."
Graham, like former President Joe Biden, was a close ally of the late conservative Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) — a scathing critic of Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Scarborough noted, "I must tell you: my last meeting with (Sen.) John McCain, there were two things that were on his mind. One was the continuing threat from Vladimir Putin, which he talked about at great length. He brought up the names of all the political leaders that Vladimir Putin had killed."
