Ginni Thomas’ group raised almost $600,000 in 'anonymous donations' to fight 'cultural Marxism': report

Far-right Republican activist Ginni Thomas, who is married to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has insisted that she doesn't discuss her work with her husband. Nonetheless, the term "conflict of interest" has been used in countless reports on her activism, including reports that during the lame duck session of late 2020/early 2021, she aggressively promoted the Big Lie and urged then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to do everything he could to overturn the presidential election results.

Ginni Thomas, talking to the January 6 Select Committee in September 2022, made it clear that she still believes the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump — even though that conspiracy theory has been thoroughly debunked time and time again.

The activist, however, was promoting MAGA causes long before 2020. According to Washington Post reporters Shawn Boburg and Emma Brown, that includes a "little known" group that she led: Crowdsources for Culture and Liberty, which "collected nearly $600,000 in anonymous donations."

Those donations, they report, were "channeled through a right-wing think tank" in Washington, D.C. called the Capital Research Center (CRC).

In 2019, Boburg and Brown report in an article published on March 28, $400,000 of that money was "routed through yet another nonprofit, Donors Trust, according to that organization's tax filings."

The Post reporters explain, "The documents do not say how or whether the money was spent. It is not clear how much compensation, if any, Ginni Thomas received. CRC, which bills itself as an 'investigative think tank,' is dedicated to uncovering anonymously funded influence campaigns by unions, environmental groups and other left-leaning nonprofits. Among its trustees is Edwin Meese III, the conservative elder statesman and former attorney general in the Reagan Administration. Its president is Scott Walter, a former aide to President George W. Bush."

Ginni Thomas' Crowdsources for Culture and Liberty, according to Boburg and Brown, was heavily focused on "culture war" causes and battling what it called "cultural Marxism."

"On May 18, 2019," they report, "Thomas told influential right-wing donors and activists about Crowdsourcers in a private meeting, video from the event shows. The left, she said, was pushing 'cultural Marxism' and 'eroding the pillars of our country.'"

Video of that event shows Ginni Thomas saying, "We have some culture warriors, but we have a lot more to do. Conservatives and Republicans are tired of being the oppressed minority."
