GA attorney general delivers massive blow to Trump backers on state election board

Donald Trump has been bragging about the presence of some MAGA election deniers on the Georgia State Election Board.

Meanwhile, some Democrats have been warning that those Trump allies could cause problems if Vice President Kamala Harris wins Georgia in the presidential election in November and they refuse to accept the election results.

The Trump allies have been calling for Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr's office to investigate the 2020 election results in Fulton County, which includes Atlanta.

But according to Lawfare's Anna Bower, Carr is saying that such a probe will not take place.

On Monday, August 19 on X, formerly Twitter, Bower posted, "In an official opinion issued today, Georgia attorney general Chris Carr says the State Election Board is not empowered to direct his office to reinvestigate the 2020 presidential recount in Fulton County."

In a separate tweet, Bower elaborated, "The opinion comes after a Trump-backed majority of the state election board voted 3-2 to direct state Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr to investigate Fulton County's handling of the 2020 election, seeking to reopen an inquiry closed in May."

In response, the Democratic group Blue Georgia tweeted, "How many times are they going to lose Georgia? It's almost like they enjoy the humiliation."

Tim Stringham — a Democratic candidate for Maricopa County recorder in Arizona — referenced his own state and tweeted, "MAGA is trying to steal control of elections in the biggest swing county in the country."
