Fox News' Laura Ingraham Launches into a Vile and Racist Diatribe Against Immigration: 'The America We Know and Love Doesn't Exist Anymore'

With the rise of President Donald Trump, Fox News has drifted toward advocating even more explicitly for a white supremacist ideology. In her latest tirade against immigration Wednesday night, host Laura Ingraham delivered one of the most patently anti-immigrant and racist screeds from the network yet.

"It does seem like the America we know and love doesn't exist anymore," she said. "Massive demographic changes have been foisted on the American people. And they are changes that none of us ever voted for, and most of us don't like. From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically, in some ways, the country has changed. Now, much of this is related to both illegal and legal immigration, that of course progressives love."

While it's true that the size of the immigrant population in the United States has grown in recent decades, there's simply no evidence that it's causing the kinds of problems Republicans like to imagine and stir up outage about with their fear-mongering. And a large immigrant population is nothing new in American history — the country had similar levels of immigration in the late 19th century.

And despite Ingraham's claims to the contrary, most Americans have no problem with the level of immigration in the country. According to Pew Research Center, 38 percent of Americans want to see immigration continue at present levels, while 32 percent actually want to see immigration increased.

Only 24 percent of Americans desire less immigration to the U.S. — down from 53 percent in 2001.

Of course, that's not what Ingraham and her ilk would like you to think. They'd like you to think everyone is as terrified of immigrants as they are. 

And despite what you hear from politicians like Trump, unauthorized entry into the country is not a growing problem. There are fewer undocumented immigrants in the United States now than there were in 2009, and the rate of net illegal immigration has been about zero for a decade.

"Fox used to just be sort of the country club style of racism, which is extremely awful....but they've crossed the threshold now. Just straight up white nationalism every single night," tweeted Andrew Lawrence, a senior researcher for Media Matters who first discovered the clip.
