Fox News apologizes for airing pre-made graphic announcing Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death

On Monday, viewers of "Fox & Friends" were startled by a graphic that flashed briefly on screen implying that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died.

The image showed a picture of Justice Ginsburg's face, with the caption: "SUPREME COURT JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG 1933-2019":

The graphic, which presumably shocked a number of viewers, quickly led to an on-air apology from "Fox & Friends" hosts, who say it was a control room error. "We don't want to make it seem anything other than that was a mistake," said Steve Doocy. "It was an accident."

Ginsburg, the most senior member of the Supreme Court, is an icon of liberal jurisprudence and of popularculture, and has ruled against President Donald Trump on contentious issues. She has experienced recent health scares, including a fall that broke her ribs and a successful surgery to remove malignant lung cancer — which ironically may have only have been caught due to her fall. She is expected to make a full recovery and return to work soon.

Trump, who has gotten to make two Supreme Court appointments, has openly and gleefully entertained the possibility that Justice Ginsburg's death could give him a third. However, she has vowed to stay on the court until at least 2023.
