Former assistant US attorney explains how Sean Hannity 'made himself into a witness' for SDNY probe into Trump payouts

Harry Sandick, former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, on Friday detailed how Fox News host Sean Hannity made himself into a potential witness in the ongoing federal investigation into hush payments made by former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

Hannity, in an interview with Trump on Thursday, claimed Cohen personally told him "at least a dozen times" that "he made the decision on the payments” to Trump’s alleged mistresses without consulting the president.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) on Friday called on Hannity to testify under oath regarding his “first-hand knowledge about Michael Cohen's actions last night.”

"If he was lying, it wouldn't be the first time,” Cicilline said. “… If he feels he has information that's relevant to this investigation, he should share it under oath before Congress.”

Sandick agreed that Hannity “made himself into a witness.”

“One way in which you can make an assessment about the credibility of somebody like Michael Cohen is to find out whether he said things that were consistent or inconsistent with his testimony in the past,” Sandick offered. “Sean hannity making a serious charge saying he spoke to me many times, said things that were inconsistent. I would think that the Southern District, and the congressional committee that [House Oversight Committee] Chairman [Elijah] Cummings just convened two days ago, would want to hear from Sean Hannity.”
