Florida's surgeon general says Twitter violated his 'human rights' by removing COVID-19 anti-vax post

Florida's Republican Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has accused Twitter of violating his "human rights" when it removed and restored a post citing studies about possible side effects of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

Ladapo "was promoting an analysis claiming a high incidence of cardiac-related deaths among men who take the mRNA Covid-19 vaccine," Politico reported on Sunday. Ladapo "had also recommended men aged 18-39 should not receive the mRNA vaccine. Ladapo is an outspoken skeptic of Covid-19 vaccines who has questioned both the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine despite consensus within the medical community that the vaccines help protect against the virus and can lessen severe symptoms."

Ladapo, who was selected by right-wing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, has faced heavy criticism for his promotion of conspiracy theories and bogus medical treatments for coronavirus infections, such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. Ethics complaints were also filed against Ladapo last year for lying about the effectiveness of masks in preventing the spread of SARS-COV-2. The DeSantis administration, however, refused to investigate the matter.

Twitter noted in its initial decision:

Our current misleading information policies cover: synthetic and manipulated media, COVID-19, and civic integrity. If we determine a Tweet contains misleading or disputed information per our policies that could lead to harm, we may add a label to the content to provide context and additional information.

Yet despite Twitter reinstating his tweet, Ladapo complained to white nationalist podcast host Steve Bannon that he is nonetheless a victim of oppressive censorship.

"Sure, they didn't reach out to me personally. Maybe they reached out to the office but I have heard no such thing. but you know, this whole – I mean – it is really almost criminal really in terms of how, how much disregard that they have for human rights," Ladapo griped on Monday's edition of War Room. "And I'm not talking just about Twitter. But this whole body that thinks it's okay to crush the voices of others because you don't like their message."
