Weeks after the OceanGate submersible, Titan, imploded with five passengers aboard — including the company's CEO, Stockton Rush — many still wonder how exactly the sub became no more.
While the United States Coast Guard continues to investigate the cause of the implosion, Amelia Adams, for a Saturday, July 15, episode of 60 Minutes Australia interviewed several people, including industry insider Rob McCallum for more insight.
According to BBC, McCallum previously attempted to convince Rush "that he was potentially putting his clients at risk and urged him to stop using the sub until it had been certified by an independent agency."

But eventually, as Adams said, "After an exhaustive five day search, the U.S. Coast Guard declared what many industry insiders, like Rob McCallum had already surmised. The sub had suffered a catastrophic implosion."
McCallum emphasized, "They were diving in something that literally was a ticking time bomb."
Adams asked him, "What do you think it is about the Titanic? Is it the romance, is it the tragedy, that humanity is endlessly obsessed with?"
McCallum replied, "Yes, I think it's a turning point in maritime history. Here was a machine, one of the largest ever built, the fastest ever built, the sort of pride and joy of human engineering, and Mother Nature changed our attitude, and in a single blow told us that we're not the masters of the universe — nature is very much in control."

Later in the interview, he noted, "The whole volume of the submersible collapses in about 2 milliseconds, and it takes 25 milliseconds for the human brain to detect a threat. So it's not so much that you die, it's that you cease to exist. It's almost the Perfect End."
