On Tuesday night, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron for a state dinner at the White House. As one might expect, the president's first state dinner in office reflected his personal style, according to CNN reporter Kate Bennett.
"It did look beautiful," Bennett told Erin Burnett, host of CNN's "Out Front." "But everything was gold, Erin, right down to the little tiny salt and pepper shakers, the candlesticks, the chairs. So it definitely had a feel of 'Trumpiness' and that aesthetic."
Bennett noted that the first lady arranged the dinner without outside help. Instead of hiring an event planner, as is common for a state dinner, she organized the dinner and the entire night with only her White House staff.
"It's taken her months," Bennett said. "She's done a lot of research."
