In the past, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York) and political strategist Tim Miller were both known for being moderate figures in the Republican Party. Stefanik, first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014, had a reputation for being a business-minded conservative along the lines of 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney — and she was far from being a strident culture warrior.
But ultimately, Miller and Stefanik took two very different paths in response to Donald Trump's presidency.
Miller, a scathing critic of the MAGA movement, left the GOP, became a full-fledged Never Trumper and made frequent appearances on MSNBC. Stefanik, Miller notes, flip-flopped and went from "moderate" to "full MAGA."
In a biting video posted by the conservative website The Bulwark on August 19, Miller notes that Stefanik was "brutally booed multiple times" at a recent event in Plattsburgh, New York near the Canadian border — and the former GOP strategist is highly critical of the congresswoman for dodging her own constituents.

"(The) old Elise, you might remember her as having been the moderate anti-Trump congresswoman," Miller tells viewers in the video. "She didn't like Trump so much she wouldn't even say his name up until like 2018 — who them turned full MAGA, sucked up to Trump, did everything possible to garner his good will, endorsed him early even after the insurrection."
In 2025, Miller comments, Stefanik is "apparently afraid to see her own constituents" and is "afraid to be confronted by her constituents."
"According to her constituents," Miller observes, "her office doesn't even respond to them. She is treated like she is some royalty on high who should not deign to respond to complaints from the people she's there to represent…. She only represents MAGA voters there, I guess…. It's a pretty dark and ugly view of the world that Elise has these days. It's kind of reflected in how she looks and sounds."
Miller went on to show video of Stefanik getting booed in Plattsburgh, commenting that "she deserved it."

Miller lamented, "The complaints that her constituents have are legit…. This is what happens when you decide that you no longer represent your entire district."
