'End of the conversation': Democrats consider suing Trump

Sen, Brian Schatz (D-HI), who initiated a resolution condemning President Donald Trump for accepting a $400 million jet from Qatar, has stated that the president's action constitutes corruption and added that there are "no circumstances" under which it is appropriate.

"They are saying it is a gift to the Air Force," Schatz noted during a podcast with Bulwark's Sam Stein, but said it is being given to the Trump Foundation and Trump "will be able to ride it for the rest of his life."

Although Schatz's resolution was blocked by Senate Republicans, he said he and his colleagues and looking to sue Trump under the emoluments clause. "I am not the lawyer here, but there is going to be another swing at this thing," he said.

"The Air Force One is a mobile Oval Office and situation room.. None of that should be paid for by a foreign entity," the senator said.

"We are missing the damn point. It's not that this bribe should not be taken because it's impractical.. Nobody should take a $400 million item from a foreign country, and that should be the end of the conversation," Schatz argued.

He added that Trump is operating with impunity which is why he openly defended the gift. "He literally does not understand why it would be improper to take a free thing from a foreign country."

On Tuesday, Trump reiterated that the jet gifted to him by Qatar is being given to the United States Air Force and the Department of Defense, suggesting that it would save American taxpayers money.

In a late-night Truth Social post from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the president said: "It is a gift from a Nation, Qatar, that we have successfully defended for many years. It will be used by our Government as a temporary Air Force One, until such time as our new Boeings, which are very late on delivery, arrive."
