Michigan AG warns Republicans 'can pry this wedding band from my cold, dead, gay hand'

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel did not mince words when she spoke on the Democratic National Convention stage Wednesday.
The Democratic leader lauded Vice President Kamala Harris "for refusing to defend a California ban on same-sex marriage," according to MSNBC, while taking a dig at Republicans — and conservative US Supreme Court justices — aiming to restrict LGBTQ+ rights.
Addressing the DNC crowd, Nessel said, "By the way, I got a message for the Republicans and the justices of the US Supreme Court: You can pry this wedding band from my cold, dead, gay hand."

In June, according to Michigan Advance, Nessel gathered at the state's Democratic Party headquarters with LGBTQ+ rights organizations "to highlight the threats they say LGBTQ+ Michiganders face if Republicans take power."
Per the report, "Their collective message was that while the rights of LGBTQ+ Michiganders face a rollback if Republicans returned to power in the Legislature, they would be especially vulnerable if former President Donald Trump was allowed to again occupy the Oval Office."
Nessel told attendee: "I don’t know if I’m the only one who remembers what it was like to have Donald Trump be the president of the United States. I remember it and it’s one of the reasons actually that I ran to be attorney general of this state, because I wanted to push back against Trump’s homophobic, transphobic and very hateful agenda."
