CNN's Jake Tapper Rips 'Nation's Most Prominent Birther' After Sarah Sanders Whines About 'Baseless' Trump-Russia Accusations

CNN's Jake Tapper on Monday recalled Donald Trump’s years-long attack on former president Barack Obama after White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders complained that former Obama officials are “making baseless accusations” about the president and Russia.

Sanders on Monday said Trump wants to revoke the security clearances of former intelligence chiefs, including former director of the CIA John Brennan, former FBI director James Comey, former director of national intelligence Michael Hayden and others. Sanders accused the former intelligence officials of “[politicizing] and in some cases [monetizing] their public service.”

”The president is exploring these mechanisms to remove security clearance because they've politicized and in some cases monetized their public service and their security clearances,” Sanders argued. “And making baseless accusations of improper relationship with Russia is inappropriate."

Tapper pointed out the innate irony in Sanders complaining about “baseless accusations” when her boss, Donald Trump, led the bogus claim that Obama was not born in the United States and must therefore release his birth certificate to prove his nationality.

On his show "The Lead," Tapper once again brought up Trump's well-documented birtherism in relation to Sanders' compaint.

"Traditionally there has to be evidence of abuse for that to be revoked," Tapper explained. "The White House cited no evidence of abuse by these former officials. They have said what Sanders called today 'monetizing and politicizing' their public service as the offense. You heard that right, a spokesperson for President Trump objecting to the 'monetizing' of public service."

"Sanders went on to criticize those former officials for, quote, making baseless accusations of an improper relationship of Russia," Tapper continued. "Again, you heard that right: a spokesperson for the nation's formerly most prominent of the lie that President Obama was not born in the U.S., a guy who suggested that Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) dad may have played a roll in the Kennedy assasination, apparently he doesn't like baseless accusations."
