'Pretty much best friends': Investigative reporter warns Elon Musk is 'whispering in Trump’s ear'
19 November 2024
President-elect Donald Trump has announced that X/Tesla/Space X CEO Elon Musk will play a prominent role in his second administration.
Along with MAGA businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk will head a new federal government agency called the Department of Efficiency.
New York Times reporter Kirsten Grind discussed Trump's relationship with Musk during a Tuesday, November 19 appearance on CNN. And the two of them, Grind emphasized, have been growing closer and closer.

Grind told CNN's Pamela Brown, "Elon Musk and Donald Trump are pretty much best friends at this point. We saw, over the weekend, they were at the UFC fight together, eating fast food . Elon Musk has been at Mar-a-Lago pretty much since the election."
Grind added, "So, it's just been really astonishing to watch the kind of influence this mega-billionaire has had on this new Trump Administration."
When Brown mentioned that Musk has asked Trump to "hire Space X employees as top government officials," Grind responded, "Well, It just shows how early his influence has started in this administration that Elon Musk — someone who has really never been in politics at all before this — is recommending people to the transition team to speak with at his own companies, SpaceX and others. So, it's just been really interesting to see how much he has Donald Trump's ear through this whole process."
Grind added that Musk's relationship with Trump is "going to help him all around" with his companies X (formerly Twitter), SpaceX and Tesla. And she added that the Times will be looking for possible "conflicts of interest" in the Trump/Musk alliance.
Grind told Brown, "His spending more than $100 million during this election to get Trump elected — the return is going to be great for him…. He basically is this mega-billionaire who runs all these companies, but he doesn't really have any sort of history in the government and has shunned politics. And yet, here he is, behind the scenes whispering in Trump's ear."
