Christian Radio Host Says Husbands Should Get Their Sense of Worth from Outearning Their Wives

During yesterday’s Focal Point, conservative radio host Brian Fischer expressed his discomfort with news that a record 40 percent of women act as breadwinners for their families.
“From a biblical standpoint, it is very clear that men are designed to be the breadwinners for their families,” Fischer lamented. “That’s the way God set it up. That’s the way he designed it.”
Fischer explained that men were, by divine grace, granted “mental abilities” to “provide for their families.” He added that, “The biblical pattern is for a wife and mother to focus her energies—devote her energies to making a home for her husband.”
Directly addressing the new data showing steps toward gender equality, Fischer said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t think it’s a healthy dynamic to have a wife outearn her husband, because so much of his sense of worth as a male is tied up with what he does vocationally.”
“If there’s a wife that outearns him, I think that’s going to put some stress on his psyche,” Fishcer said. “It’s going to put some stress on his marriage.”
