Worshippers at a church in California have gathered outside a tree recently because they believe God’s tears are coming from it. The problem is that tree experts say the “tears” are tree lice, as WPTV reports.
For the past week, people who attend a Catholic Church in Fresno, California have taken to congregating outside a tree in front of the cathedral. Because there is liquid coming from the tree, worshippers think it’s a miracle.
“When you say ‘glory be to God in Jesus name’ the tree starts throwing out more water,” one worshipper said.
But in reality, there’s a simple reason why there’s liquid coming from the tree. “The aphides [tree lice] will suck the sap, the sap goes through the aphid and then it is a honey dew excrement from the aphid and it gets so heavy in the summertime that it will drip down,” said arborist Jon Reelhorn.
Maria Ybarra, though, isn’t buying the arborist’s explanation. “I can tell you looking at it from a scientific standpoint and a spiritual standpoint it is the work of God manifesting here on earth,” she said.
