White House calls out Rep. Boebert for taking 'credit for investments' she 'voted against'

US Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Wednesday announced on social media that she helped secure millions of dollars in funding for a Colorado community initiative — although she did not back the infrastructure bill that provided the funds.

The Colorado lawmaker wrote via X (formerly Twitter), "Great meeting with Glenwood Springs City Councilor and former Mayor Jonathan Godes. We have secured over $51.4 million for the South Bridge. Was thrilled to hear about nearly $30 million in costs savings in addition and that my support has helped make this project a reality."

The White House's X account replied: "One thing about Congressional Republicans…they’re going to take credit for investments they voted against."

Democratic National Committee regional press secretary Stephanie Justice wrote in a Monday, May 20 statement:

Lauren Boebert has tried to take credit for the achievements President Biden and Democrats have delivered for Coloradans so many times you might wonder why she keeps voting against the bills since she supports the president’s agenda so much. But whether it’s Boebert or Donald Trump, MAGA Republicans refuse to put their extreme politics aside to actually fight for the working families President Biden and Democrats do every day. No matter how many times Boebert attempts to lie to her constituents, President Biden and Democrats are the only ones delivering real results for Colorado families and the American people.

Justice added, "Boebert voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and called it 'wasteful' and 'garbage' – yet requested federal funding for a transportation project afterward."

US Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) responded to Boebert's post, writing, "Hey Colorado!! @RepBoebert actually voted against this funding. Now she's trying to take credit! This is why people call DC a swamp..."

The White House's X account replied: "One thing about Congressional Republicans…they’re going to take credit for investments they voted against."

In March, MAGA Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) — who's name has been floated on the list of possible Trump running mates — took credit "for a $1.8 million federal grant a community within her district received," although she opposed the bill that provided the funds.

In February, US Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) issued a statement "claiming that she 'secured over $1.4 million' in federal funding for a children’s hospital in Miami,' and 'even appeared in person at the hospital for a photo-op, delivering oversized checks, and then promoted the event via social media.'"

CBS News investigative journalist Jim DeFede confronted the Florida Republican about taking credit for the funding via social media although she "voted against the bill that gave the money" she "then signed a check for and had a photo op."
