Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado in December 2022 (Gage Skidmore)
The son of MAGA-aligned Rep. Lauren Boebert was arrested over the weekend and is facing a new round of charges, his second in less than a year.
On Sunday, Boebert's grandson, 2, was found wandering outside of her home in Windsor, Colorado. Alarming on its own, 9News reported that the home is situated near a lake, adding extra danger for an unattended toddler.
Speaking with the local news channel, Boebert credited an unnamed local woman with finding her grandson and getting him to safety.
"A kind woman quickly and safely secured him, and authorities were called as a precaution," the congresswoman explained, also adding that there was "no excuse" for the situation and that she's "very frustrated this happened."
The child's father, Boebert's son, Tyler Boebert, 20, was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with a misdemeanor count of child abuse without injury. Notably, he is currently awaiting trial for the exact same charge in connection with a similar incident involving his young son from July.
At the time of that first incident, Boebert described it as a "one-time incident that we have addressed as a family." Tyler Boebert had the child when he was 17, with a girl his mother only ever described as older than 14. Over the years, Boebert had been known to brag about how "responsible" her son and the child's mother were in raising him, according to The New Republic.
These instances are not Tyler Boebert's only run-ins with the law. In 2024, he pleaded guilty to charges related to a series of break-ins and identity theft. According to reports, he broke into several vehicles in the town of Rifle, Colorado, stealing credit cards and using them to buy food, among other things. An affidavit from around the time of that arrest also revealed that he allegedly made a non-consensual sex tape with himself and an underage girl, who was also implicated in the credit card thefts.
