Republicans in top GOP rep’s district urge Trump to rethink 'ill-advised endorsement' against him

In March, House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-VA) publicly expressed his frustration towards fellow Republican conference members for endorsing his primary challenger — GOP state Senator John McGuire.

Weeks later, during Donald Trump's Manhattan hush money trial last month, Good traveled to New York to defend the former president — only to later discover that the MAGA hopeful chose to endorse his opponent.

Despite the group of House Republicans against the Virginia leader's reelection, Politico reports that over "two dozen Republican leaders in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District" urged Trump in a Thursday letter "to reconsider his endorsement of" the Virginia senator.

"Bob Good is BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA," the former president wrote on social media last month. "He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and 'loving' Endorsement – But really, it was too late. The damage had been done!"

US Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) told CNN in an interview earlier this year, "Bob Good didn’t come here to govern. He came here to be famous. Bob Good’s wearing our jersey, and he’s not on the team. If you look at what we have not been able to accomplish in this Congress, it’s predominantly because of Bob Good and his ilk."

Still, Politico reports the letter penned by 5th District Republican Congressional Committee Chair Rick Buchanan asks Trump to rethink his decision.

In an effort to "strongly urge" the MAGA leader to back Good, the 25 Virginia GOP lawmakers wrote, "We hope President Trump reconsiders his ill-advised endorsement and stands with the Grassroots America First supporters of Congressman Bob Good."
