'A huge flag': Bill Maher ignites controversy with bombshell Fetterman interview
14 June
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and HBO host Bill Maher
Although "Real Time" host Bill Maher is a scathing critic of President Donald Trump, he is also highly critical of the "woke" movement, political correctness and what he views as left-wing "purity tests." And Maher found some common ground with Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) during an interview aired on Friday night, June 13.
Maher defended the Pennsylvania senator against his critics on the left, telling him, "You have issues with depression, and it seemed like they were sort of weaponizing that to say that you had gone crazy. And I did smell kind of a rat here when they wrote that you were driving recklessly, and too much time on Twitter. And megalomania…. I don't think you're crazy. And I have certainly seen people who refuse to go all the way with the purity lovers on the left suddenly castigated and cast out and attacked like this."
The "Real Time" host, who recently met with Trump in the White House despite their major disagreements, noted that Fetterman's critics fault him for reaching out to the president.

Fetterman commented, "We're one of the few people that will actually have dinner with Trump."
The interview is generating a lot of discussion on X, formerly Twitter — both pro and con.
Liberal X user Rita Powell posted, "Bill Maher applauding Fetterman for being buddies with Trump!"
Right-wing media figure Eric Abbenante, on the other hand, commented, "Bill Maher and John Fetterman mock the progressives and radical leftists who tried and failed to cancel Fetterman…. The people calling Fetterman crazy, are amongst the craziest people imaginable."

The Democratic group Blue Georgia noted Fetterman and Maher's comments on Israel.
Blue Georgia tweeted, "John Fetterman: 'I don't believe Israel has [committed] any kind of war crimes. We've seen a lot of language cheapened, too. There was never a genocide.' Bill Maher: 'This has been going on for 75 years.' I like Fetterman, but he will get a lot of heat for these comments."
Blue Georgia also posted, "John Fetterman on being seen with Steve Bannon: 'We weren't having dinner or doing anything like that... I was just hanging out, talking to the other side... if you break those kinds of rules, you do have to pay a price.' Bill Maher: 'But you could have dinner with him. It wouldn't turn you into a zombie.'"
X user DJ Omega MVP tweeted, "I'm glad he is noticing what we are noticing the shift so he knows to be careful who he talks to and interact to. He already went to maralago to kiss the ring and that was a huge flag already."
Another X user, Agron, remarked, "I can't think of anything I could possibly want to watch less than John Fetterman and Bill Maher talking about Israel."
X user John Crane commented, "John Fetterman needs to step down, he is not in good shape, seems confused, stumbles and is slightly confused, not bad, but is a little off. I loved him when he first started but he is confused. Bill Maher should notice this... ...his pronounciation of words are telling..."
