According to BBC News, one beef farmer has saved his cows from slaughter by sending them to a sanctuary.

In total, 63 cows will get to live out their lives in peace at an animal sanctuary in the U.K. And 30 of the cows were pregnant, so these mother cows will get to care for their young.

BBC explains:

Jay Wilde, who switched from dairy farming to organic beef production on the death of his father in 2011, said he always wanted to give up animal production because he "couldn't believe it was right to eat them."

And to top it off, he has decided to open an organic vegan market that supplies veggies grown without animal products or fertilizers.

“I'm relieved to have made the decision to no longer farm animals, something which I always found quite upsetting," said Wilde.

This isn’t the first farmer to have a change of heart. Just last year, another cattle rancher made headlines after giving up animal-based farming with plans to grow vegetables instead.

It’s never too late to choose compassion over killing. Animals raised for food suffer horrifically to reach our plates, so we can make a big difference simply by leaving them off our plates.
