This far-right politician thinks UK should have accepted 'Hitler’s offer of neutrality'

Far-right Ian Gribbin has been a controversial figure in the U.K., where he is running for office via the Reform UK Party. According to the BBC, some comments he made about Adolf Hitler in 2022 are drawing new scrutiny.

BBC News journalists Laura Kuenssberg and Joseph Cassidy report that in 2022, Gribbin attacked the U.K.'s involvement in World War 2 in posts on Unherd Magazine's website.

The Reform UK candidate wrote, "Britain would be in a far better state today had we taken Hitler up on his offer of neutrality…. but oh no Britain's warped mindset values weird notions of international morality rather than looking after its own people."

In a separate post, Gribbin attacked Winston Churchill — the U.K.'s prime minister during World War 2 and a major ally of U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt — and wrote, "In Britain specifically we need to exorcise the cult of Churchill and recognize that in both policy and military strategy, he was abysmal."

On the Unherd Magazine site, Gribbin also posted some comments that have been criticized as sexist.

Gribbin, according to Kuenssberg and Cassidy, wrote, "Men pay 80% of tax – women spend 80% of tax revenue. On aggregate as a group you only take from society…. Less complaining please from the 'sponging gender'."

In a January 2022 post, Gribbin wrote, "Men pay 80% of tax. Women take out 80% of expenditures. Square that inequality first by depriving women of healthcare until their life expectancies are the same as men, Fair’s fair."

Reform UK (formerly the Brexit Party) is a right-populist party that is headed by Nigel Farage (who formerly headed the UK Independence Party) and has often been compared to the United States' MAGA movement.
