The word "unprecedented" is being used a great deal in connection with U.S. politics, and accurately so.
Never before in United States history has a former president been convicted on 34 criminal counts while being his party's presumptive presidential nominee — and, according to many polls, having a good shot at winning the election and returning to the White House.
Axios' Mike Allen, in an article published on June 10, observes that Donald Trump's legal problems are one of the many things that will make 2024 an "historic, hysteric summer."

"Never before has a former president been sentenced for a crime," Allen notes. "Never before has a felon accepted the nomination of a major party. Never before has a man as old as former President Trump, who turns 78 on Friday, (June 14) accepted the nomination of a major party. President Biden was 77 in 2020."
Allen continues, "Trump will set that record at the Republican convention in July — then be beaten five weeks later by President Biden, 81, at the Democratic (National) Convention. Never before has a general-election presidential debate been held before fall. Never before has a wartime Israeli leader addressed Congress…. All that — and so much more — will happen during this summer of never-before."
The Axios reporter goes on to list some of the Summer of 2024's important dates, including the Trump/Biden debate on June 27, Trump's sentencing on July 11, the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, and the start of Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 19.
Allen points out that June 30 will mark France's "snap elections, which could shift its government to the right," adding that the "second and final round" will take place on July 7.
