An 'eclectic mix' of anti-vaxxers and 'New England preppies' attended RFK, Jr. campaign launch: report

If President Joe Biden runs for reelection — which he appears likely to do — he will face two longshot challengers in the 2024 Democratic presidential primary: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and new age self-help guru Marianne Williamson. RFK, Jr., known for his fringe anti-vaxxer views, flew into Boston from Los Angeles for a campaign event at Boston's Park Plaza Hotel on Wednesday, April 19.

According to the New York Post's Dana Kennedy, the event featured "a mix of old-time Democrats dreaming of Camelot, Republicans, and anti-vaxxers" who "came from as far as Vermont and Palm Beach."

Dana Kennedy reports, "Inside the red, white and blue bunting-draped ballroom at the Park Plaza, filled with Secret Service-style security and bomb-sniffing dogs, Kennedy's supporters held signs reading 'Heal the Divide' and 'Kennedy 2024.' They were an eclectic mix of staid, NPR bag-clutching New England preppies, a few women brandishing anti-vaccination signs, and more than a smattering of 50-ish California blondes in the vein of Kennedy's wife, actress Cheryl Hines, 57."

Tony Lyons, president of Skyhorse Publishing, attended the event. Skyhorse published RFK, Jr.'s anti-vax, anti-Anthony Fauci book "The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health."

Boston-based artist P.J. Szufnarowski, according to Dana Kennedy, was carrying anti-vaxxer signs but argued that it was misleading to describe RFK, Jr. as anti-vaccine.

"He's not anti-vaccine, he's for vaccine safety," Szufnarowski told the Post. "He's an honorable advocate for safety in the environment and global greenhouse. Do I think he has a chance? Not a snowball's chance in hell. The world has gotten too corrupt for him. Look at me: I'm a lifelong Democrat, but I’m basically viewed as a racist today just because I have white skin. I'm here because I feel desperate."
