'If he was on The Apprentice right now he’d be fired': Analyst explains why Trump Jr’s deposition matters

During Wednesday's episode of MSNBC's The Beat with Ari Melber, former deputy chief of the State Department of New York criminal division Kristy Greenberg criticized Donald Trump Jr's testimony in his father, ex-President Donald Trump's ongoing civil fraud trial — while pointing to the importance of New York Attorney General Letitia James' maintaining depositions in the case.

"Kristy, why does it matter the AG had to fight for so long to get all these depositions? She won that fight, and now has that as part of the armament against that the judge is weighing. How bad was the fraud?" Melber asked.

"It's important she has the depositions because she has their testimony locked in," Greenberg replied. "Each of these witnesses she's calling — all the Trump children and Donald Trump — she knows what they're going to say in response to various questions she's already asked, so if there is daylight, if they do back away from something, she can pull up the tape and confront them with it. But what's interesting there in the clip you just showed, is this is going to be their M.O. — just point the finger at somebody else. Whether it's the CFO, whether it's the accountant, whether it's the lawyer — anybody who doesn't have to last name Trump. And ultimately, for Donald Trump Jr., he signed these statements of financial condition and said that they were accurate. He doesn't have to be an accountant. He said that the information he provided to the accountants was accurate, and now in the deposition, at least, he said, 'Well, I didn't really have anything to do with that.' You can't have it both ways. If he was on the apprentice right now, he'd be fired."
