Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg drop out of 2020 race and endorse Joe Biden: 'Desperate to stop Bernie'

Following former Vice President Joe Biden’s victory in South Carolina’s Democratic presidential over the weekend, three candidates have dropped out of the race — first billionaire Tom Steyer, then former Sound Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and on Monday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. Buttigieg and Klobuchar are both throwing their support behind Biden, and Twitter is full of reactions to the news.

Although Sen. Elizabeth Warren butted heads with Klobuchar during some of the debates, she gave her fellow Democrat a shout out on Twitter — posting, “Thank you to my friend, @AmyKlobuchar . You've been a champion for working families and women in politics, and I look forward to keeping up that fight by your side.”

@Mchaels_kasey said of Klobuchar, “Amy showed two flaws in an otherwise laudable campaign: that huge chip on her shoulder, and her concentration on ‘I did...and I did...and then I did...’ She could also lose the folksy jokes and no one would miss them.  Beating Trump isn’t a stand-up routine.”

New York Magazine’s Yashar Ali posted, “Walk out of therapy to Amy Klobuchar dropping out and endorsing Joe Biden and the unsurprising news that Pete Buttigieg plans to endorse Biden.”

@alanajoy described the endorsement as “disappointing across the board. If I HAVE to Biden I’ll Biden. But please don’t make me!!”And @sunnydays878 sarcastically posted, “Almost like they were called and asked to do so....

More sarcasm came from @JimConn04125141, who wrote, “The Milwaukee Fire Dept just announced they're hiring.”

Warren seems determined to stay in the race through Super Tuesday, with some pundits wondering if she will eventually drop out and endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders. @Naimeiyao posted, “The surprise would be if Warren dropped out and endorsed Biden” — to which @Lc402 responded, “I mean, (Warren) did endorse (Hillary) Clinton” in 2016.

@Goldengateblond responded with dark humor, posting, “Klobuchar surveys her empty campaign headquarters. ‘All that matters is I lasted longer than Pete did,’ she says, before dousing the place in gasoline and flicking a lit cigarette.”

@Whendaworldend tweeted, “Do I detect unsurprising means disappointing?,” while @charliexv wrote, “I'm honestly very glad primaries ‘l the 10th here in Idaho. Less worry that a candidate will unexpectedly drop out.”

@GuardsFarm expressed a preference for Sanders but vowed to vote for Biden if necessary: “I’m voting for Bernie tomorrow. But in November, I will vote blue no matter who. And I will canvas and help register voters. I want GOP gone.”

@Wendyc78757 tweeted, “It’s not all that shocking that Amy and Pete both are going to endorse Biden. Did anybody really think that they were endorse Sanders? Come on.”
