Former Trump Org CFO will return to jail for 5 months in plea deal over false testimony

Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg on Monday agreed to plead guilty on two counts “relating to testimony he gave during a 2020 deposition with” New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office, CNN reports.

As the New York Times notes, James sued former President Donald "Trump in 2022, accusing him of wildly inflating his net worth to obtain favorable loans and other benefits.”

Weisselberg, who already served 100 days behind bars at Rikers Island after he pleaded guilty last January to tax fraud, will now serve time for felony perjury charges related to false testimony he gave “regarding the size of the Trump Tower triplex apartment and dealings he had with an insurer,” according to CNN.

Per the report:

Weisselberg had been in plea talks with Manhattan prosecutors for several weeks relating to his testimony taken during the New York attorney general’s civil investigation into the former president in 2020 and when he testified last year, several people familiar with the investigation said.

As part of the plea talks, Weisselberg was not expected to turn on Trump and will not testify against him at the New York criminal hush money case scheduled to start later this month, the people said.

“Mr. Weisselberg’s agreement with the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, comes weeks before the former president will stand trial on unrelated criminal charges,” the Times reports. “That case, also brought by Mr. Bragg, stems from a hush-money payment, made on Mr. Trump’s behalf, to a porn star during the 2016 presidential campaign.”
