Alito absent during 'second day in a row' of bombshell SCOTUS rulings

The U.S. Supreme Court continued to release decisions on Friday morning, June 21, upholding a federal law that prohibits gun ownership for those who have a restraining order against them because of domestic violence complaints.

The High Court rejected an argument that the law was a violation of the U.S. Constitution's 2nd Amendment. However, the justices have yet to release an anxiously awaited decision on former President Donald Trump's presidential immunity claims.

According to CNN's Shania Shelton, Justice Samuel Alito was "not present on Friday morning" when the gun ownership decision and others were handed down.

Friday, Shelton reports, was the "second day in a row" Alito was absent from the Court.

"Alito's absence, for which the Supreme Court has not provided an explanation, is unusual because it's the end of the term and the justices have issued nine opinions over the last two days," Shelton observes.

The CNN journalist notes that Alito has been surrounded by controversy in 2024.

According to Shelton, "Alito has been in the news recently for controversial flag displays outside of his properties, including a U.S. flag that was flown inverted outside the justice's home in 2021 and another flag that was on display during the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol that was flown outside Alito's vacation home in New Jersey."
